Photos & Attachments

Capture before/after photos, annotate images, attach files to jobs, and document equipment — all tied to the job record.

Visual documentation is a core part of every job. FieldGenius gives you a structured photo workflow so before/after evidence and equipment details are always attached to the right job record.

Opening the Photos Screen

From within an active job, tap the Photos tab in the job workflow. You'll see photo slots organized by category.

Photo Categories

Each job type can have preconfigured photo categories defined by your company. Common categories include:

  • Before — condition of the equipment or area on arrival
  • After — completed work and final condition
  • Equipment — nameplate, model/serial number, damage documentation
  • Issue — specific fault or problem being diagnosed

Tap a category slot to open the camera. Photos are immediately attached to that category.

Capturing Photos

  1. Tap a category slot or tap Add Photo.
  2. The native camera opens in photo mode.
  3. Take the photo. A preview appears — tap Use Photo to keep it or Retake to try again.
  4. The photo is saved locally and syncs to DramTrade when connected.

You can add multiple photos to any category. Tap the + icon on an existing category to add more shots.

Photos are stored at full resolution locally and compressed for upload. Original files are preserved on your device until the job is archived.

Photo Annotations

To annotate a photo after capturing it:

  1. Tap any photo thumbnail to open the full-screen viewer.
  2. Tap the pencil icon to enter annotation mode.
  3. Use the tools in the annotation toolbar:
    • Draw — freehand markup with color selection
    • Arrow — add directional arrows to highlight areas
    • Text — type a label directly on the image
    • Shapes — circle or rectangle overlays
  4. Tap Save to commit your annotations. The annotated version replaces the preview in the job record.

Attaching Files

Beyond photos, you can attach other files to a job:

  • Tap Add Attachment and choose from your device's file browser.
  • Supported formats: PDF, PNG, JPG, HEIC, MP4 (short video clips).
  • Maximum file size: 50 MB per attachment.

Useful for attaching equipment spec sheets, warranty documents, or short video clips of intermittent faults.

Equipment Documentation

For jobs involving equipment service, the Equipment photo category automatically extracts model and serial number text from images using OCR when you're online. After capturing a nameplate photo:

  1. A "Read Text" prompt appears.
  2. Tap it to run OCR.
  3. Review the extracted text and tap Confirm to populate the equipment fields in the Diagnose tab.

Viewing & Sharing Photos

Tap any completed job and go to Photos to view the full gallery. Tap Share on any image to send it via Messages, email, or copy a link. Photos shared via link are accessible to anyone with the URL for 30 days.
